Redact a tax return across every page

A tax return repeats the same Social Security numbers on many pages, adds dependents' details and often includes bank account numbers for refunds. Missing one copy is easy by hand. Re-Doc finds every occurrence across all pages and removes them the same way each time.

Example

What Re-Doc changes

Orange boxes are what Re-Doc finds on its own. Scans and photos get permanent black boxes burned into the image.

Checklist

What to remove, and what to keep

Usually removed

  • SSNs on every page: yours, your spouse's and dependents'
  • Dependents' names and details: children are often included
  • Refund routing and account numbers: printed on the refund section
  • Signatures and preparer IDs: when not needed

Usually kept

  • Income and tax figures
  • Filing status and tax year
  • Form layout and line numbers
Tip

Returns often run to many pages, so check the whole file. Re-Doc checks every page, so a number on page 1 is also caught on page 9.

How it works

Three steps

  1. STEP 1

    Upload

Re-Doc highlights every change. On scans you can add or remove boxes; for any file you can describe what to keep or remove in plain words.

  3. STEP 3

    Download

Get the safe copy in the same format you uploaded, with the layout unchanged.

Frequently asked questions

01Who asks for a redacted tax return?
Lenders, landlords, schools and courts sometimes accept one. Ask which figures they need before you remove anything else.
02Does it catch the same SSN on later pages?
Yes. Each value is found everywhere it appears in the document.
03Can I keep the adjusted gross income visible?
Yes. Amounts are not removed unless you ask for it.
04Is this tax advice?
No. It is a way to remove data from the document. Check with the requester or an advisor about what you must share.
